Will Apple Watch be Successful? [OPINION]

Wearables, a new market and a whole new category. It's a category which I am not a huge fan of and never really wanted Apple to get into this wearable market. However, in a week's time they will be announcing their first ever wearable device. Will it be successful?

Wearables in my opinion is a very restricted category. Google decided to get into the wearable market through Google Glass, and just last month, Google announced that it will be no longer be producing Google Glass, but still remains committed to the product and the category. Last year, Google announced the Android Wear which in my eyes is probably the best thing that has ever happened to the world of wearables.

I love technology and I like having a smartphone with me all the time for checking social networks, videos, news, listening to music, emails, and most importantly time. However, there are times, when even a beautiful iPhone gets annoying and you want to take a break from it. With a watch, that will be one more thing connected to internet and it's one more thing to annoy you!

"With a watch, that will be one more thing connected to internet and it's one more thing to annoy you!"

I think these smart watches are nothing more than notification alerter. You get a new message, your phone will go off and then few seconds later you will get a vibration on your wrist to check your phone. Just thinking about it feels a bit annoying to me!

Apple may sell millions of units in the first week or so, however, I think it is conceptually flawed. It has gimmicky  features like sending heartbeats to your friends etc. I do like some features like taking phone calls and fitness apps. But, I only have one issue from wearable technology in general and that is too much much internet and technology! I feel such a device will keep me wired into my social networks, messages, emails etc all day!

Maybe this opinion of mine may change once I buy the new watch but for now I am just not a huge of this market.

So here we go, yes Apple watch will be successful, however, it may not get great reviews from customers! I still think, that companies need to approach this market from a different angle. If one day, Apple decides to link Apple watch with home automation which then allows me to control Phillip Hue lights or turn on coffee maker or allows me to change my thermostat temperature, then that shall be the day when I will be really happy with the smart watches. For now, they are just a notification alerter on your wrists!
